SOLAR PANELS OR GREEN ROOFS ON ALL NEW HOUSES COULD HELP THE CLIMATE

Pleased to see it looks like the French are looking into making all new house builders have either Solar panels ( or green roofs) This is something I have asked our Council leadership to consider requiring developers in Birmingham to consider.

SMALL STEPS TO HELP THE ENVIRONMENT

This month I have again been trying to use less heating and lighting, to reduce my travel needs and recycle more. Next month will be far more difficult?

I like to tell my self I am helping the environment if only just a bit?

KEEP THINGS NATURAL

Please think before you concrete over your garden or put down Artificial grass.
Nature needs a home, water needs to soak away and not just be able to run of somewhere else on lower ground near by to possibly cause flooding.
Try and keep that tree , bush or bit of grass. It may take a few minutes to tidy up but if everyone did the same it would help our world a lot
Some simple things can help our environment, wildlife, Biodiersity and climate. Councils and Governments cannot do every thing, people have to take responsibility to.

THE OSCOTT ELDERLY RESIDENTS GROUP HAD MINCE PIES BY THE DOZEN

I enjoyed my visit to the Oscott Elderly residents group today. They were having there Pre Christmas get together ( their full get together is next month) and Mince pies were very evident. I was only sorry that they decided not to hold their usual Councillors Q and A session as I aways enjoy them.

Their Char Maureen and her band of helpers have once again done a good job today.

POP INTO THE AGE UK COMMUNITY CENTRE TO SEE WHAT IS ON OFFER.

I was pleased to be able to call in and meet member of the Stretch and bend elderly club and their volunteers in the Age UK Community Centre today.
members were busy doing light exercises, having some light refreshments and a chat when I spoke to them.
The group who operate from the Old Oscott Community Centre on a Tuesday morning still have room for more members if you are interested pop in and see them.

OUT AND ABOUT WITH THE OSCOTT CENTRAL STREET WATCH

I was really pleased to be out and about tonight with the Oscott Central Street Watch Team.
Despite it being cold and a long walk it was a worth while experience.
We covered a number of public right of ways and streets in the area and it was nice to be met with cheerful greetings.
The Street Watch does not take the place of the Police but helps them to keep in contact with residents. We pass on to the Police any concerns we see or hear about.
More volunteers are needed.

WHY NOT JOIN A TRADE UNION.

As a local Councillor I ocasionally get asked to help with an employment related issue.
My advice is always make sure you are in a union as their hard working officers know far more about employment issues than I ever could. They will certainly battle for what you deserve.
Advice is just one of a number of benifits there are from being a member of a union. If you work for a living you should consider joining a union.
Their details can be found on the internet

MORE ELECTRIC CAR CHARGING POINTS ARE NEEDED

I have been pleased with the reaction of the Council leadership to my requests for more Electic Charging Points in the City.
I have for example suggest a requirment for all new Planning developments which have plans for large cars parks to have them.
I have now been told policies looking into this will be considered next year.
If we want more environmental friendly ? electic cars there needs to be more electric power charging points.

THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO ATTENDED TODAYS ALL OSCOTT SCHOOLS PROBLEM PARKING AIR QULITY AND ROAD SAFETY WORKING PARTY

It was really good to be able to Chair the Oscott Problem Parking Road safety and Air quality meeting today.
Thank you to the school reps who came and to the Transport Engineers and road safety officer. And not forgetting Councillor Barbara Dring who can always be relied on to support the meeting and have her say.
There are no magic solutions, but a number of issues and concerns are being taken away for consideration.
All Oscott Schools have an open invite to the working party and can have their impute. Residents will be updated at the next Oscott Ward ( Chaired by Councillor Dring) committee when they too can give their views.
It is strongly recommended that all Oscott Schools complete their Travel to School Plans this year.
Finally thank you to the Great Barr Academy for their hospitality.

It is also good to see work has started on trying to relieve some of the parking issues in the area by encouaring buses to use the school grounds

PERRY BARR FLY OVER

Now it has been decided to remove the Perry Barr Fly over it must be a case of ensuring all the inconvienence that will follow will be kept to a minimum and air quality and any added road conjestion  in the areas near by are monitored and if negative dealt with.
