NEW RULES NEEDED FOR AIR RIFLES

I was saddened to read recently that a small baby Rashid Rullah had been shot in the head by her sister, due to an air gun being left lying around in their House.
How many more incidents must we have to put up with regarding air rifles and pistols.?
Following an incident in Oscott a number of years ago, I called up Khalid Mahmood MP To bring the problems caused by air weapons up in Parliament, which he did. Nothing was done, however and since then there have been a number of incidents with air weapons as well as the deliberate missuse of them.
For example barely a week goes by when a vicious attack on a defenseless animal/bird, by a thug using an air rifle is reported to the RSPCA. I still believe a ban on air weapons is needed. Those who want to use air rifles etc, should use a registered weapon in a registered club, where the activity can be supervised. I just do not know why anyone, especially when living in a build up area should need to keep an air weapon in their home.

Keith, regulation is not the be all and end all!

If you wanted a gun this weekend, you could go to many parts of this city and obtain one for a couple of hundred pounds. No questions asked.

But if you wanted to go out this weekend and shoot a gun/rifle in a controlled enviroment, with blanks, you would have to have police checks, rifle licence, the lot! Basically you couldn't do it this weekend, you'd have to wait months.

Why should people, how want to shoot for sport, who aren't harming anyone, have to pay the cost because some careless parent, who was irresponsible left his rifle unattended?

It is not just one incedent but many OVER THE YEARS. once a proper system was set up it should not be that easy for some ome who wants to shoot air weapons to sign in at a registers establishment and shoot away to their harts content.
The systenm does need to be streamlined but where there is a way there should be a will.

Why can't people 'shoot away to their hearts content' in a controlled enviroment?

I'd much rather people be doing that than people shooting to their hearts content on our streets!

In a perfect world I would support everyone playing with their guns as much as they want, but for the sake of our children and wild life I support control of all weapons. If someone wants to go shooting use a club.I know I will not get my way and accidnets and deliberate acts of cruelty will continue unabated but there you go.
