WHY DOES IT TAKE SO LONG TO INSTALL NEW STREET LIGHTS?
One of the question I am regularly asked by residents is "why do they not fill in the holes when they have put up a lamppost and why does it take so long.
The process of installing new lighting can be quite lengthy, and sometimes the excavations are left open after the new lighting columns are erected to enable the underground services to be connected by Amey's Service provider Western Power. Under Health and Safety barriers have to be erected and the positions change as work progresses, however they do try to maintain access at all times and when they do not I make complants to them on behalf of resident.
Amey the Contractor responsible do try to programme their works so that there is a minimal delay, between the lighting team leaving site and Western Power providing connections, but this is not always possible however there are some times problems and I find myself trying to chase them up to do the work as quickly as possible.
