Ron passed away having been admitted to Good Hope Hospital in the early hours of this morning following a long illness.
Ron who represented the Perry Barr Ward for both the Liberal and the Labour party was always a real friend to the Oscott ward and we often worked together on campaigns which effected both Perry Barr and Oscott Ward's. before and after he left the Liberal Party.
"Big" Ron was a real fire brand who cared passionately for this area of Birmingham and even while ill and living in the Erdington area he constantly kept in touch with me trying to help former constituents. He was a mine of information and never lost his interest in the Perry Barr Ward.
Ron was elected to City Council on
2 May 1996 – 2001, Liberal Democrat, for the Perry Barr Ward and Labour
Councillor 2001-2004.
During his time on the City
Council, he served as a member on the following Committees; Commercial
Services Committee (1996-99), Commercial Activity Sub (1996-98), Staffing
Appeals Sub (1996-97), Environmental Services Committee (1996-99), Appeals Sub
(1996-97), Birmingham Trade and Consumer Panel Sub (1996-98), Environment Forum
Sub (1996-98), Transportation and Technical Services Committee (1996-99),
Appeals Sub (1996-97), Contract Services A (1997-99), Planning Committee
(1998-99), Contract Services Committee (1999-2000), Public Protection Committee
(1999-2000 & 2001-03), Young People Policy Panel (1999-2000), Regeneration

Council Overview and Scrutiny Committee (2001-02) and Adviser to Cabinet Member
for Leisure, Sport and Culture Portfolio (2002-04). I am honoured to say Ron and I sat together on many of those committees.
Ron leaves behind his beloved wife Sue and children Robert and Helene as well as 5 grand children.
Ron will be sadly missed by many including myself.
