I have been receiving a number of complaints about teething problems in regards to the new Green waste service and these should not be shied away from.
Sadly some residents who paid for the service have either not not received their Green Wheelie bins or have had missed collections.
Clearly this is not good enough and I have had to resolve a number of such problems which should not have happened. Residents who have paid for this service deserve to see it work.
I have been however assured as the new service becomes " bedded down" the service will settle down and improve and a lot of residents have not had problems with it.
It is also interesting that some families I have met feel having the option to pay for the green waste service rather than either having to pay extra Council tax to keep it or to lose other services to keep the Council tax down to keep the green waste service is a good idea. it helps them prioritise the way they spend their money?
There are some resident who need to reminded due to restraints on the councils budgets due to government's cuts in funding there is now a charge for the green waste collection service of £35.
Residents do have the option of using free recycling Centres like Holford Drive or composting. However bags of green waste should not be left on the street.
If you are still having concerns about your Green waste service please Email me Keith.Linnecor@birmingham.gov.uk or ring me on 303 2039 (messages) and I will try and do what I can to help.
