PROTECTING OUR HEDGEHOGS

At last weeks Planning committee I asked about safe guarding the declining number of humble Hedgehogs much to the amusement of some of the committee members.?
However I am pleased to find out that  a new Biodiversity Supplementary Planning Document  is currently in the early stages of drafting, and is expected to be approved in 2017/18. This document will include guidance for planners and developers on safeguarding hedgehogs during site clearance/construction and will identify where new developments should include measures to maintain and enhance habitats for hedgehogs, for example, by installing “hedgehog-friendly” fencing between new gardens.
While there is an urgent need for new housing in this city there is also a need to safe guard the city,s ever declining wild life to. I will do what I can to ensure both happen in as much harmony as possible.
