After a lot of pressure been put on by local residents and their Oscott Councillors Booths Lane (the City adopted section Queslett Road to bend only) has been put onto Amey's and the Birmingham City Councils rota of carriageway resurfacing work to be done.
Although all the details are not yet available at least Amey has listened on this occasion.
However the question as to why this section of Booths Lane was not done at the same time as Bowman and Caddick Road, when clearly its carriage way was in a worse state.

METROPOLITAN COLLEGE VERGES TO BE GREENED UP AGAIN
After months of being requested by myself, to turf or re seed the verge near the Metropolitan College on the Aldridge Road the Council Highways have started work. They are currently digging the ground and will be double seeding shortly.
This work is needed following the introduction of high curbing to prevent dangerous parking at this location.
What is now needed is a bit of rain and hopefully we will have some pleasing green verges again by the college.
It it also pleasing to see the College itself has followed my advice following one of my site visits there and introduced some new litter bins to the area to help keep the amount of litter in check.

THE QUESLETT NATURE RESERVE NEEDS RAIN
I have managed to have a few walk abouts in the Queslett Nature Reserve recently and although the reserve is looking tidy and reasonable litter free there are signs that someone has tried to set fire to some parts of it. If you see anyone doing this sort of thing please note their description and call the Police.
Given the lack of rain fall over the last couple of months the grass land in the park is very dry which means anyone smoking while in the reserve needs to make sure they put it out properly their cigarette.
The lake is also looking decidedly empty and I hope we have a reasonable wet Autumn to help get the lake back up to its normal level.

PROBLEMS WITH DOOR STEP RECYCLING COLLECTIONS IN OSCOTT
I am continuing to receive dozens of complaints about the door step recycling collections in Oscott.
Since the beginning of the year many residents in the Oscott area are finding their blue boxes, Green Boxes and green bags are not being emptied on the right day. In some cases residents are waiting weeks for their collection.
This is simply not good enough and I am calling on the powers that be to take action.
i would also urge residents to make their voice heard and complain.

IS PERRY BARR FIT FOR THE OLYMPICS?
I have had a number of Oscott residents already complaining to me about the poor image Perry Barr may give during the Olympics. A number of Oscott residents have to pass through the area on a regular basis and have a genuine interest in the problem.
Many are worried that those coming into the area to see top teams train during the Olympics and so on, may think how untidy parts of Perry Barr look.
With that in mind I have been asking officers to consider more street cleaning the area around One stop and Alexander Stadium and a lick of paint for the sub ways is also needed. for example. ( I am sure Perry Barr Councillors will be doing the same)
The Council need to start a major spring clean now rather than wait until the last minute.

A NUMBER OF TREES ARE TO BE REPLACED IN THE OSCOTT AREA
A number of residents will have received or will be receiving letters from Amey (the street contractor) informing them for various reasons trees are being removed from near where they live and to give information regarding parking arrangements and so on when this happens.
This is happening because the trees have outgrown their locations and are causing damage to the foot ways. Amey will replace the trees with younger, healthy trees of an appropriate species. A notice will be placed on all affected trees identifying the reason(s) for removal.
The work will take place in most cases over the next few months. Following the tree removals, footway reconstruction works will be arranged.
Access to your property
You will be able to get to and from your property during the proposed works, but access may be restricted at times. If you have any queries during the work, please contact the City Council customer care helpline on 0121 303 6644. or if urgent and out of hours 303 4149.

OSCOTT STAYS CALM
Despite rumours being circulated the Oscott area remained calm last night. Youngsters have not been out causing undue problems and the local Police are being vigilant.

As a regular bus user myself I am only to aware that when Oscott residents complain to me how difficult it is to go shopping at One Stop they are spot on.
There is no bus going directly to one stop for the majority of Oscott residents.
This is one of the reasons I am supporting a number of Oscott bus users who are calling for the 28 bus to go to One stop. Having to"lug shopping" long distances across roads or under sub ways is no joke and Centro along with the privatised bus companies need to come up with a solution. With the help of residents I will be putting pressure on them to do so.

AUBREY LONGE RE ELECTED AS OSCOTT CENTRAL NEIGHBOURHOOD FORUM CHAIR
After attending the some what chaotic Oscott HLB AGM that failed to take off on Thursday, it was nice to be asked to attend a well organised AGM run by the Oscott Central Neighbourhood Forum.
This meeting took place at the 610 Community Centre this morning and it is my guess it cost less than a tenth of the Housing department led HLB meeting. There were certainly as many residents there.
As usual following the well run AGM section, I was in the firing line to answer questions from the audience. (Sadly Councillor Dring had a prior commitment).
Questions ranged from why are some pavements so bad to what is the latest situation regarding the Booths Lane development.
I was also good to see that Khalid Mahmood MP popped in for the last few minutes to answer questions from the audience.
I was not surprised to see Aubrey Longe re elected as Chair of the OCNF as I know he is so committed to the local community.

HAWTHORN ROAD REPAIRS WORK TO TAKE PLACE FOR 14 NIGHTS
There will be some inconvenience to residents and and motorists using Hawthorn Road for 2 weeks during the night for details see below.

We will be resurfacing Hawthorn Road from College Road to Kingstanding Road.
This work is part of a 5 year upgrade of Birmingham’s highways network, in which we will be resurfacing around 45% of the roads in the city. For the very first time, every road in the city has been visually inspected to understand its condition and a prioritised programme of work has been developed to improve it. The expected start date is during the week ending 19th August 2011.The work will last for up to 14 nights.

Vehicles are unable to drive over hot material. Whilst surfacing operations are being carried out the section of road affected will be entirely closed to ALL traffic. If you require access for medical/personal reasons, could you please contact 0121 303 6644, to discuss how access can be arranged. Amey accepts that this will cause some inconvenience but, our operational staff are at extreme risk from vehicle movements and their safety is of paramount importance.
Pedestrian access will be maintained as will access for emergency vehicles.
Traffic Information
Hawthorn Road will be subject to an overnight road closure, with access to frontages as detailed above. Width and speed restrictions will be in force during the road closure and works period.

In order for us to carry out these works, we must ask you to ensure that vehicles are not parked on the carriageway during these hours. Any cars left on the carriageway will be removed by the City Council Parking Enforcement Team, which could include a cost to the owner.

OSCOTT HOUSING LIAISON BOARD FAILS TO TAKE OFF
Having attended what was supposed to be the AGM of a newly recreated Oscott Housing Liaison Board last night I wonder why I bothered.
The last HLB (this is a group of tenants and some homeowners who work as a team for the local community trying to improve things for tenants and improve the area they all live in, simple?) fell apart mainly due to what I considered political interference and Housing officers wanting to control the Board. This was a great shame because it had ran well for a number of years.
The only difference I could see last night was all the Councillors (both parties) wanted to ensure any new board was run correctly. Sadly only a small number of tenants and homeowners turned up and the meeting was something of a shambles.
There is now going to be another attempt to organise an HLB, but although I think the few interested residents and their Councillors are doing what they can, it may be hard going.

MORE NEWS ABOUT OSCOTT COMMUNITY CHEST AWARDS
Oscott Community funds were allocated by the Oscott Ward Committee last night. (see also previous post re young peoples projects. )
Some of the high lights were.
Age Concern were awarded 3 Thousand pounds to help elderly residents with their gardens and 6 thousand pounds to help pay for a handy man to help with minor repairs to older peoples homes.
The Kingstanding/ Perry Barr Pensioners Convention are to receive £500
The Oscott Elderly Residents group are to receive £350
The Saint Francis luncheon Club are to receive £200
Young families will receive help through. Home start receiving 5 thousand pounds and the Bandywood families Project receiving 15 thousand pounds.
£650 was granted to the All Stars nursery.
£500 will be given to the Libraries Children's reading summer challenge initiative.
To help crime prevention there will be a special pot of money £12,000 for small projects.
The neigbourhood Watch will receive £500 and the neighbourhood Police Initiative volunteers will receive £350.
Disabled allotment users will be pleased to know that 2 thousand pounds was granted to improve access to toilet facilities at the Aldridge Road allotments.
£500 will be given to help those with Dyslexia in Oscott.
Imagine a self help support Group for those suffering minor mental illness will receive £350
The Friends of the Queslett nature Reserve are to receive £350
The Oscott Disability Group have been granted £300
The Oscott Residents group will be receiving £300
The Get hooked on Fishing project to encourage training , employment, volunteering projects and so on are to receive £2000.
And to help up lift the area,s moral £1,250 is to be given towards a fun day event and the Hawthorn Road Christmas Lights project will receive £3.000 on a match funded basis towards this years Christmas lights

OSCOTT YOUNGSTERS SET TO BENIFIT FROM COMMUNITY FUNDING
At the Oscott Ward Committee meeting last night the 3 Oscott Councillors Barbara Dring, Graham Green and myself, agreed with recommendations from the Oscott Ward Advisory Board and have now given Community Chest funding out to a number of worthy groups.
Youngsters in Oscott have done well out of the Community Chest this year.
10 thousand punds has been given to support Constituency youth projects FOR OSCOTT YOUNGSTERS.

Base K/S have received 2 and a half thousand pounds to help with their youth advisory work.

OSCOTT ELDERLY RESIDENTS GROUP ENJOY A DAY OUT.
It was a real treat along with Councillor Barbara Dring to be asked to go on a trip with the Oscott Elderly Residents group, to the National Arboretum near Lichfield.
Many of these pensioners rarely great a break from their homes so it was good to see this trip laid on for them.
It was a very enjoyable and sobering place to visit and since my last visit there they have really improved the place.
Well done Maureen Bryne for putting on such a wonderful trip for the Elderly.

ELDERLY BOWMAN AND CADDICK ROAD RESIDENTS NEED THE 651 BUS
Its time the 651 bus returned to Booths Lane and Bowman and Caddick Roads. This mini estate currently has no bus coverage and many elderly residents have to walk hundreds of yards to the Queslett Road to catch the 651 or 451 buses. The small size of the 651 buses would make it the ideal choice to use back on the old route which covered these roads The excuse that it was difficult to get these buses into this estate has now been resolved as the Queslett / Nova Court junction has been widened. The extra journey time would only be a few minutes at the most.
Taking the 651 away from these roads showed an appalling understanding of the needs of elderly bus users and a lack of vision.
I am now in touch with senior officers at Centro trying to encourage them to have another review of the situation.

610 COMMUNITY CENTRE YOUTH CLUBS
Now the Summer School holiday are upon us once again I know parents will be trying to find their youngsters something to do. With that in mind I would suggest they get in touch with the 610 Community Centre (464 2268).
The 610 CC offer a range of activities for youngsters. this includes.

Senior youth club (15-19)
Youth Club (11-14)
Junior club (6-11)

ALDRIDGE ROAD CALL FOR ROAD SAFETY MEASURES REJECTED
The Birmingham City Council has decided to turn down a petition from Oscott residents calling simply for road safety measures to be introduced to the Aldridge Road.
It is becoming clear that this stretch of road will be ignored by the Council until a major occurrence happens. There have been 11 recorded "slight accidents" in 3 years but this is not enough to warn them something more serious could be on the way.
The Aldridge Road Between the Boars Head junction and Beeches Road needs in my view road safety measures to be introduced.
Certainly traffic lights at the Greenholm Road Junction, Pedestrian centre carriageway refuges near the Aldridge Road allotments and Speed indicators should at least be considered.

DROP CURB INSTALTION SERVICE TO IMPROVE WE SHALL SEE ?
I have just been informed that the Drop Curb Installation Service is now going to be brought back up to its past level of service. This follows some intense pressure by myself, Councillor Ray Hassall and others.
We now will to wait to see how this increase in service pans out. They certainly need to do something and fast. I have a number of resident's who are extremely agree at the present level of service. I many cases they have paid in full for a drop curb and have waited for months. This is clearly not good enough and I will continue to press for action on their behalf.

BARR AND ASTON LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETY HONOUR THEIR FOUNDERS
Barr and Aston (Formerly Perry Barr) Local History Society have honoured 2 of their founding members Bert and Pauline Cooke.

PLAY IN THE PARKS COMES BACK TO OSCOTT IN AUGUST
The Play in the Parks scheme is back in Oscott. Targeted at youngsters between 5 and 13 yrs a ranger of activities have been planed.

INDICATIVE PLANS FOR NEW BOOTHS LANE DEVELOPEMENT
After seeing a small note in a recent report to the Birmingham City Council regarding a Queslett Golf Course master plan I called for more details.
I have now received an indicative plan of possible future developments on the site.
These include a Private nursing home/ private hospital. along with, a convenience store, Dental practice, Pharmacy, Hairdressers and Nursery.
There would also be access roads from Sandy Lane and extensive further housing developments. The plans currently available show the in filling of the rest of the Booths Lane unadopted section and the retention of part of the golf course at the rear of the site.
Clearly these plans are in the early stages and I have already had the agreement from the Planning committee that all aspects of the plans should they be brought forward will be rigorously examined and further the Planning department will remain in touch with any developers intimating their concerns regarding the methane producing area near by and so on.
Although as I have indicated this is still very much in a EARLY discussion stage, now we are aware of it both Councillor Barbara Dring and I will be monitoring the plans and keeping residents involved.
The Planning department have assured me this is at a very early stage and no plans have been approved.

GOT SOMETHING FOR MY BLOG?
A number of people have asked me recently to promote various things on my blog. This has come as a bit of a surprise as I did not think that many people read it, although I do get a number of emails about the various things I write about.

DOG FOULING ON THE INCREASE IN OSCOTT
Dog fouling seems to be on the increase again in Oscott.
This is a sure sign we have had better weather.
I would remind dog owners that the school holidays will soon be here and young children will be using our open spaces more as a result, so please pack up and take home your dogs mess.
I know many dog owners do already and they get just as frustrated as anyone else about this subject, but I am trying to appeal to those that don't.
I will be asking the Council to try and arrange more of the anti dog fouling initiatives they arranged on my request earlier in the year but because of council cuts in funding these are harder to arrange.

The Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act requires any person in charge of a dog which fouls on designated land, to remove the dog mess immediately. Almost all land in Birmingham is designated. Offenders can be issued with a fixed penalty notice (£50).
If you are issued with a fixed penalty notice this will include details, where and how payment of the fine can be made. Failure to pay will result in prosecution and, if the matter goes to court, may result in a fine of up to £1,000.
The dog wardens affix appropriate signs to lamp posts and distribute educational leaflets and posters to encourage dog owners to clean up after their pets.

OSCOTT''s WEED FILLED STREETS
Many residents are complaining to Councillor Barbara Dring and myself about the state of our streets in Oscott which are full of weeds.
I can never remember the area looking so bad. It looks as if the weed killing service has really been hit by the Councils cuts. I have been assured Oscott pavements have been sprayed but in many cases I can see no improvement.

Residents Lounge room Ashgrove near Priestfield Close Off Shady Lane Great Barr.
This is a chance for Oscott residents to let the Police hear their views on police related issues, crime, parking, speeding and so on.

DROP CURB INSTALLATION DELAYS
One of the most common complaints I am receiving at the moment is with regards to having a drop curb installed.
Where pavements are being reconstructed as part of the much trumpeted street upgrade program residents are being offered large discounts.
This is ok but where streets are not being done or at least are not being done for a long time, these drop curbs are still costing, those who want one, a small fortune (and if trees or other amenities have to be moved as well I mean a small Fortune.)
If that is not bad enough I am hearing from residents that they are paying in good faith and having to wait ages to have the work done.
Clearly this is unacceptable and I have contacted senior Highways officer and the cabinet responsible asking them to look into this.
Money should not be exchanged in full if the council can not for fill its side of the contact promptly and it is a disgrace that they are holding on to residents hard earned money for months without the request work being done. The system needs to be sorted out.

BOOTHS LANE MAST APPLICATION SET FOR REFUSAL
Planning officers are now set to recommend refusal with regards to the planning application for a mast which was to be located at the junction of Booths Lane and Bowman Road.
This should please local resident who are annoyed at the prospect

KEN SMITH RECIEVES POLICE AWARD FOR COMMUNITY SAFETY
I was delighted for veteran Community Champion Ken Smith yesterday when at a meeting of the Oscott Police Tasking Group meeting he was presented by the Police with a plaque honouring him for his services for Community safety in the Oscott area.
Ken for many years has worked tirelessly as the Neighbourhood Watche's senior representaive in Oscott and he has worked equally hard as for the Perry Barr Pentioners Convesntion.
I can only say after working closely with Ken for years, he really deserves this recognition.

GOOD BYE AGE CONCERN?
I was pleased to accept an invitation to a meeting of the Local Perry Barr/ Kingstanding AGE Concern areas where they were closing down to unite under the Age UK banner.
At the meeting all those who had worked or volunteered for Age Concern were rightly thanked for all their wonderful work.
I was also very pleased to see how good the refurbished (by Age Concern) Old Oscott Community Centre is looking.
Both Councillor Barbara Dring and myself along with the Oscott WArd Advisory Board have and will continue you to be supportive when it comes to Oscotts Community Chest and requests for funding from Age Concern/ UK.
In the past we have helped fund the Gardening scheme and Handyman scheme amongst others.
Residents should see no difference in the help they get from Age Concern / UK and it is only the name that may be different.

BOOTHS LANE RESIDENTS SAY NO TO MAST
I have presented a petition from scores of residents from Booths Lane, Bowman Road, and Ashworth Road calling on the Birmingham City Council to reject a planning application for a mast. The prosed site for the mast is the junction of Bowman Road and Booths Lane.
Residents are very concerned that this mast may cause health problems, could obstruct the pavement and may bring down house prices. Other location further away from peoples house should be considered.
The petition was presented to the BCC Planning Committee.

GREENHOLM ROAD SCHOOL FETE THE BEST OF BRITISH
I had the honour yesterday to be asked to open the Greenholm Road School Fete yesterday.
The school had a great day and I thoroughly enjoyed watching along with parents, each class in turn doing a dance routine (along with their teachers) to a typically British song, even though it made me late for my next appointment.
The fete was based on a proud to be British theme and seeing and meeting the children reminded me there is a real future for this country.

OSCOTT HOUSING LIAISON BOARD AGM DATE ANNOUNCED
There will be an Oscott Housing Liaison Board AGM Public Meeting which is scheduled to be held on 4 August @ Great Barr Leisure Centre Aldridge Road @ 6.30pm.
Many people who had served of the previous Oscott HLB informed me they were very disappointed when, for what appeared to be more political reasons than anything else the board was abandoned a year or so ago.
For many years the board members had successfully tried to maintain their Independence with the help of Local Councillors, from too much control by the Housing department. Sadly they finally failed and the HLB was stopped from meeting.
It is to be hoped that if a new HLB is set up it will be made up of residents who will continue to remind the Housing department they (the members) first priority is to their fellow residents and not to make life easy for the Housing departments and its officers. Both Councillor Dring and I will be monitoring the situation on behalf of the community.

There were 3 Planning decions made by the Birmingham City Councills Planning Committee (having a declared interest I was not allowed to participate) which involed the Oscott ward.
The first was regarding Old Oscott Lane/Oscott School Lane in Kingstanding (B44 9AE)
Installation of a 17.5 metre high telecommunications pole supporting 3 Vodafone antennas & 3 Telefonia (O2) UK Ltd antennas, one ground based equipment cabinet and ancillary equipment.
This was turned down by the Committee
The second was A development of 43 houses , the provision of car spaces and the realighment of part of a foot path on land adjacent to Booths Lane.
This was agreed by the Committee
The third was for change of use at 86 Bandywood Road to a Take away
This was approved by the Committee

ALDRIDGE ROAD YELLOW LINES WILL NOW FINALLY BE ENFORCEABLE
At long last I have had it confirmed thanks to the help I have received from Councillor Timothy Huxtable (Cabinet member for Transportation) that the yellow lines on the Aldridge road close to the Aldridge Road school Complex are legally sealed. This means from the 27th June they are likely to be enforced.
There has been some confusion due to other works as part of the Safety scheme and lighting scheme which have taken much longer to finish then expected.
Now it is quite clear these lines are now active and can be enforced. Hopefully this should help ensure the safety of the children attending the Great Barr Schools.
To avoid being fined for illegal parking please ensure when parking on the Aldridge Road between Dyas Road and Shady Lane, you note and observe the parking information plates on the lampposts.

This was in the Bowman and Caddick area of Oscott. A few local residents turned up and I managed to get a few other to have a say as we walked up and down the roads concerned.
From what I could tell it was a case of thank you for your views but we have no money to do anything you want us to do. For example there were requests for tree pruning and fence repairs which there is no money for. When it came to problems regarding anti social behavior residents were told they be reported to the Police.
With the best will in the world, to wonder round local streets with fixed agenda's does seem a little pointless.
I have no doubts those organising this sort of event mean well, but without funding which they are prepared to use on what residents want these meetings are not very useful. Residents views need to be taken into account.

THE ELDERLY MUST BE LISTEND TO
There have been a number of Council meetings of one sort or another which I have had to attend, I did however manger to find the time to pop in and see a number of elderly residents in the area.
As well as going along to the Oscott Elderly residents Group meeting (ring 681 1826 for details) where I took part in a relaxation and exercise class from which I am still recovering. I also popped to Edith Pope House.
I always enjoy these visits because you can learn so much from elderly residents.
One thing they all have in common is a nervousness about the way our streets are going. The Councils inability to kill and remove weeds growing on pavements in the area, concerns many elderly residents because of the potential trio hazard they can be.
Many older residents also feel betrayed about the way they are to loose winter heating allowances and so on.
I will certainly continue to press the Council to maintain our pavements and keep them free of weeds. Oscott has had weed spraying teams out but the results as yet leave much to be desired.

DOUBLE MAST MADNESS IN OSCOTT
There is not one but two proposals for new mast locations in Oscott and in my veiw both are unsuitable.
The first proposal is for a 17 metre high mast to be located near the Kingfisher Public House junction. (Old Oscott Lane) This is very close to the Little Ripley day nursery and the manor valley school.
It is my view that they should be looking for a more suitable location and given the hostility to this proposal I have lodged an objection and asked the Planning Committee to look into the issue.
The other controversial location this time for a proposed 14 metre high mast is at the junction of Bowman Road and Booths Lane.
Many residents here feel its strange how when it comes to having new pavement and carriage ways the Council conveniently forget their existence but things are different when it comes to installing a mast.
I have again lodged my objection to this mast given I believe given the amount of open space in the area there must be much better locations for this mast and I have asked the Planning committee to look into this proposal as well.

It is my view that they should be looking for a more suitable location and given the hostility to this proposal I have lodged an objection and asked the Planning Committee to look into the issue.
The other controversial location this time for a proposed 14 metre high mast is at the junction of Bowman Road and Booths Lane.
Many residents here feel its strange how when it comes to having new pavement and carriage ways the Council conveniently forget their existence but things are different when it comes to installing a mast.

I managed to spend an enjoyably hour or so at the Aldridge Road Allotments open day today.
This site on the Aldridge Road in Oscott is a little gem and as yet unspoilt by major council cut backs.
Allotment gardening at sites like is very popular and demand for plots is at its highest for several years. There is a real growth in new tenants, particularly women and those in the 25-35 age group and there is a new sense of energy and vitality out there on the plots.
At today events there were stalls and refreshments and a time to wonder around the site looking at all the hard work growers are putting in. The site is well cared for and a credit to its committee.

OSCOTT HAS NOW LOST ITS ENVIRONMENTAL WARDEN
As of June 6th Oscott now longer has an Environmental Warden. These officers have now due to Council front line cuts been got rid of.
This decision will clearly mean for wards like Oscott, a deterioration in the standards we were used to when it comes to the environment and the appearance of the place.
These wardens in their hay day helped clean up grot spots quickly, they dealt with dog fouling issues, fly tipping removal, graffiti removal and they also dealt with members of the public on a one to one basis trying to resolve issues.
Complaints of this nature may still be dealt with by the Council but it will be on a much more hit and miss basis and they may take much longer to deal with.
There will be a long term effect of making Oscott a dirtier and less healthy place to live.

WEEDING IS NEEDED IN OSCOTT''S ROADS
In a number of streets in Oscott weeds are clearly getting out of control. The lack of spraying and weed removal is really noticeable this year.
It has not helped that the weather seems to be on the side of these weeds and they are growing at a really steady rate. In places however there appears to be more weeds than pavements.
It is time the Council got to grips with this problem and I hope we are not going to hear about the cuts they are having to make.

KETTLEHOUSE ROAD SPEED INDICATOR SIGN MAY BE RELOCATED AT LAST
After months of wrangling with Transportation engineers, which has included discussions with residents and a meeting of the Oscott Ward Committee, the Speed indicator sign is now likely to be finally be re located to a more sensible position.
I have taken up the issue with Councillor Timothy Huxtable (Cabinet member for Street Services) who is going to find out why it is taking his department so long, to re locate the offending Speed indicator a mere 25 yards further up the the same stretch of road. The current location on the border of Kettlehouse Road and Bandywood Road does not get the best effect from the speed camera and it is simple going to be moved just up the road to a better location.

QUESLETT NATURE RESERVE SPRING CLEAN
The Queslett nature Reserve had another "spring clean this week when volunteers from the Orange phone company worked along with Park Rangers (with an impute from the friends of the Queslett Nature Reserve.) As the chair of the Friends of the Queslett Nature Reserve I was please (along with other senior members) to be asked for advice about the reserve and about the clean up operations where dozens of volunteers were on hand.
After dialog with the Ranger service a number of events are being considered for later this year. It can only improve the reserve.

LIKE THE COUNCIL MY EMAIL DOES NOT WORK ON BANK HOLIDAY WEEKENDS
As you may guess it the Friday before a bank holiday and that the day my Council Email system breaks down. For the rest of the bank holiday I will not be able to send or receive emails wonderful.

HAWTHORN ROAD SHOPPING CENTRE HAS A FUTURE
I attended a meeting of the Hawthorn Traders Association last night and as usual was impressed with their efforts to get things done for the Hawthorn Road and in particular their efforts to set up a Shop Watch Scheme
It is noticeable how most of the shops on the Hawthorn Road are taken despite high rents in some cases. I also believe that the coming of Tesco's and Herron store has given the area added optimism. I understand that a sadly a few more shops are about to close however I understand other traders are looking to rent shops on the Hawthorn Road.
Clearly the proximity of the large Tesco at the Beggars Bush and the ASDA at Queslett Road do have a major impact on the viability of local shopping area's but have been amazed at the way some of the smaller trading outlets have taken up the challenge so well.
It is my view with regards to the Hawthorn Road shopping area there are enough charity shops and take always now and other types of out let should be encouraged. However the shops that are on the Hawthorn Road are viable and can be so in the future.
Finally I would say too some traders you have a hard working Traders association and the more you back it the better the future of the Hawthorn shopping Centre will be.
Also local residents can help by considering using their local shops more or at some point in the future who knows we may well lose them.

PERRY COMMON LIBRARY CLOSURE
I am advised that sections of strip lighting fell from the ceiling in the childrens part of the library on Saturday afternoon. Luckily no one was injured but this has now called into question how secure the light fittings are in other parts of the library. The light fittings in question appear to be original (older fittings) and not part of the capital improvement works carried out last year.
The Council's Urban Design and Health & Safety Officers visited this morning and sadly a decision has had to be taken, in the interests of every ones safety, to close the library until the lighting can be thoroughly checked throughout. Appropriate notices will be placed on the library entrance to re-direct service users to alternative libraries and an update to the Council library web pages will also be arranged shortly.
At the moment it we do not know how long the library will remain closed but Councillor Dring and I will do all we can to ensure everything will be done to get back to normal as soon as possible.

KINGSTANDING FUN DAY
I popped just across the boarder into the Kingstanding Ward today to see how some of the funding given by the Oscott Ward for the event was being spent.
I was pleased to see a number of Oscott residents there enjoying themselves.
The event had a fun and information theme which, as in year gone by seemed to blend together well.
The Police, Fire brigade and a number of other agencies were well represented and were doing their bit. There were also bouncy castles and stalls on display. which included yet again Jeanette Hart's, for the Air Ambulance.
Keith Airey and the other organisers really seemed to have done a good job.

NEW KINGSTANDING ROAD SPEED LIMIT DUE SOON.
I have been informed that at long last the promised 30mph speed limit campaigned for by Councillor Dring and my self is to to be introduced to the Kingstanding Road between Hawthorn Road and the Kingstanding Circle. I have also requested that some signs indicating the new speed limit be put in place.
MISSING LANDLORDS
One of the regular issues I am faced with is missing Landlords. Neighbours and even tenants often have problems getting in touch with landlords who own a property.
There are times when their assistance is required with a damaged fence or over grown garden for example and they can not be contacted.
Some Landlords just seem to appear when it is time to collect their rent and others often leave properties un let in almost ruins, for months on end.
Trying to find these elusive Landlords can be difficult even with the use of solicitors letters.
What is needed is a compulsory register of all private Landlords with their contact details , which can be easily available to the public. I am sure the many good Landlords would have no problems with this.
I have asked the Perry Barr MP Khalid Mahmood to look into this as it is a national issue and I am hoping he may be able to make some head way with the matter?.

BOOTHS LANE POT HOLES FILLED IN AT LAST
Finally last week Booths Lane the worst of the horrendous pot holes have now been filled in.
Booths Lane (un adopted section) has progressed from being dangerous to just having a very uneven surface as indicated by signs I had put in place some years ago.
Residents and my self have been continually requesting the Council to remind the owner of the land to get this work carried out.
While I do recognise and welcome that the filling in of the pot holes On the Booths Lane (un adopted section) carriage way has been done, I will continue to press for the whole carriage way to be maintained to an acceptable standard.
I can however understand the financial constraints the owners of the road are under and the condition of the road was made even worse by a bad winter.
I have spoken to the owners and hope that the situation of the road will not be allowed to get into the same state again and they are certainly aware it would not in the interests of their customers if it did.

OSCOTT ELECTION RESULT
I have spent a couple of grueling day on the campaign trail and have been delighted with the result and having a much increased majority.
The campaign seems to have been fought honourable way by all concerned and I would thank my opponents for that as its good for democracy.
I would like to thank my Colleague Councillor Barbara Dring, Agent Keith Hansen, Campaign Coordinator Triston Chatfield and all those who have helped with Door Knocking, leafletting and so on. Most of all I would like to thank all those Oscott Residents who voted for me.
As I said in my leaflets I may no promises but I will do my best to help the residents of Oscott and the Oscott Ward.

STILL NO ACTION ON COTLEIGH GROVE FENCE REPAIRS
Despite assurances to the contrary by the Housing department the boundary fence at the edge of Cotleigh Grove (topping a high wall) has not been repaired. I an continuing to press for the commitment I have had from the Housing department to be delivered as children could be at risk from this vandalised fence
I suspect like when I finally managed to get very high conifer trees at the same location cut down last year if I am successful someone will pop along at the tail end of the process and try and take the credit but there you go.

STREET CONTRACTORS SHOULD CLEAN UP AFTER THEIR WORK
Strange to say but when you put in a request to this Council Administrations Transportation department for a bollard or something similar they have a stock reply these days "No" mind you they do try to justify that with the excuse it causes " street clutter".
I find this attitude strange when their own contractor leave barriers, cones, signs and sand bags everywhere long after they have finished working some where.
For example for several weeks barriers have been left dumped on grass verges on Old Oscott Hill and grass where cutters have just gone around them.
One would have expected given the amount of money made available by the last government for the Council to negotiate a contract to upgrade road in the City, there could have been an agreement to fine contractors who abandon barriers and so on for weeks after they finish a job.? if there is its not working!

ATTACKED DOG ON THE MEND
While out having a walk about on the Queslett nature reserve I met up with the poor dog who was viciously attacked some weeks ago when been taken for a walk by his owner, in the Queslett Nature Reserve.
I am pleased to report both the dog and the owner are recovering from the attack and are on the mend.
Thanks partly to a community wide appeal one of the owners of the dogs which made the attack has now been arrested.
With the summer now approaching I would appeal to all those taking their dogs onto the Queslett please be prepared to keep you dog under control especially when approaching children or other dogs.

Although a lot of the work being carried out is to a reasonable standards there is still a lot which leaves much to be desired. Roads like Templeton have had to be revisited and the so called up grade of the carriage way in Amblecote Avenue has turned out to be little more than a bit of crack filling.
Also trees which some are claiming will be replaced may well not be unless they are in poor condition and would have been anyway.
If i was a resident I would take nothing for granted especially at this time of year.?

USE THE QUESLETT NATURE RESERVE BUT TAKE YOUR LITTER HOME WITH YOU
It looks as if it is going to be some Easter Weather wise. It has certainly been warm work recently for those of us on the campaign trail. Most people I know seem to be off to the coast for at least a few day and good luck to them.

CONTRACTORS STILL LEAVE TRIP HAZARDS ON OUR STREETS
Despite constant request there seems to be as many street barriers and cones left lying around by street maintenance contractors as ever. To my mind this shows poor work practise and i am surprised Amey and the Birmingham City Council;s Highways department in particular allow this practise to go on.
I will continue to encourage Street contractors to move these possible trip hazards as soon as possible.

GOOD BY MIKE TREVOR OSCOTT'S WARD SUPPORT OFFICER
Along with Oscott Councillors Barbara Dring, Graham Green and a number of Oscott Resident Group Leaders, I attended the Oscott Ward Support Officer, Mike Trevor's leaving do yesterday.
Mike has for some years now been Oscott Ward Support Officer where he has ably supported the interests of the Oscott ward. its Residents and Councillors. He has been a king bin where it came to sorting out Community Chest application funding for example.
Mike has with reluctance accepted a redundancy package and is one of the many officer who have really done a good job for this city but he has felt he had to go.
The cut backs being made by this Council will mean some of our ablest officers will be lost. There are far to many cuts being made to fast in my view.
I wish Mike all the very best and I suspect with his talent he will soon be enjoying another successful career.

UN TAXED BMW TO BE MOVED
I have now been informed that the DVLA will be moving the Silver Un taxed BMW that has prevented the completion of the tar mac'ing of Blenhiem Way carriage way for months. The DVLA have however pointed out that this should have been done by the Birmingham City Council under their devolved powers.
The car in question is to be moved tomorrow and most people will not be sad to see it go. I will be on to the Council now this show of blame game culture is near an end asking them to tar mac where the BMW was ASAP.
(Stop press would you Adam and Eve it not to be out done i have just been informed the Council are to remove the car today. It would appear the old saying one hand does not know what the other is doing, still it all comes out the poor old Tax payers money?)

THE OSCOTT ELDERLY RESIDENTS GROUP TO MEET WEDNESDAY.

AND STILL THERE IS NO ACTION TO REMOVE UNTAXED CAR
No I can not find any trace of the "Super glue" preventing this untaxed car from been taken away, like in so many other parts of the city? - Another week has gone by and there is still no sign of the silver BMW being taken away from Blenhiem Way to allow the resurfacing of that road to be finished. It is becoming a good test in how the Birmingham City Council the Police and the DVLA handle these sort of situations. Up to now it is clear they have failed the test miserably.

AGE CONCERN ELDERLY GROUP HAS A GOOD TIME
For once the Planning Committee had a day off and so with free time on my hands I popped into the Age Concern Tea and biscuits session held at the Emanuel Church Kingstanding Road. I try to get into see this popular group as often as I can as they always seem to be having fun. Today was no exception as they were holding an Easter bonnet competition. Luckily I was not asked to judge I have had bad experiences doing just that in the past? However I was forced onto the dance floor where I strutted my stuff only to be helped off the floor by much fitter members of the pensioners group a few minutes later. QUESLETT NATURE RESERVE DOG ATTACK UPDATE
A 19-year-old man, from Kingstanding, has been arrested in connection with the frightening incident at Queslett Nature Reserve, Great Barr, in January after an investigation by the Oscott neighbourhood policing unit. Officers are still looking for a another man, who was allegedly involved in the attack, In the Queslett nature Reserve The victim was walking dog when two out-of-control bull terrier-type dogs attacked the pair. The man a local resident suffered a bite to his hand which required hospital treatment; he also had scratches to his head and chest. The mans dog was also vey badly hurt and required a series of life-saving operations costing over a thousand pounds in vet’s bills. BOOTHS LANE PLANS TO GO TO COMMITTEE
Cameron Homes have officially put in a planning application for permission to develop part of the Booths lane site. They intend building 43 homes and reconstructing part of the Booths Lane Unadapted Road. Clearly as this a a large development my request that this plan be considered by the Planning Committee has been agreed. If you would like to see the plans for this development they are on display at the perry Common Library along with more information. (until 28th April). If you would like to present any concerns about this they need to be sent to the Planning department by the 14th April, however they will be received until the day of the committee. The Planning process usually takes 8 to 12 weeks to come to Committee?.

THE CASE OF THE MYSTERY CCTV CAMERA IS SOLVED
I have now found out the answer to the great CCTV appearance out of no where mystery. I can advise you that the camera has been placed here in response to recurring incidents of anti social behaviour, being reported to the police by local residents regarding nearby shops on Kings Road. As you may appreciate, as a Councillor for the area I get a number of quires about things like this new CCTV camera. from local residents. This is why, especially when you consider I am the one who regularly attends Local Police tasking group meetings, I am annoyed not to have been made aware of a camera going to be located in the area. As you may imagine I will be speaking to the Police about this issue.

WHERE ARE OSCOTTS 20mph SCHOOL ZONES
Amongst promises made a couple of years ago by Transportation chiefs was to introduce 20mph zones around schools. Since that time I have been trying to get some of the more urgently needed roads near schools in Oscott made into 20mph Zones. Sections of roads such as Old Oscott Hill, Bandywood Road, Greenholm Road and Sundridge Road amongst others. The current Council administration while not exactly doing a U. Turn on the subject are certainly dragging their feet. I am and will continue the battle to safe guard streets near our children's schools.

THE MYSTERY OF THE KINGS ROAD CCTV CAMERA
It is interesting in these times were the Big Society and consulting with residents is becoming all the rage with some, that without a by your leave a mystery CCTV Camera has arrived mounted on a lampost in Kings Road. Residents although not against the idea of a CCTV naturally enough rang me to ask a few questions about it. Again naturally enough, those who put it there, in the spirit of true consultation did not let me as a Ward Councillor know about it. Worst than that they did not let residents know anything about it. Worst then that they did not let the Local Police know and to cap it all the only Council official I could get in touch with , who you would have thought would have been told about it, guess what! he knows nothing about it either. (mind you he will be finding out about it Monday.) Just as a matter of interest has any one lost an expensive looking CCTV Camera?
THE JOKES ON THE TAX PAYER.
The siver untaxed BMW which our street contractor needed tar maced around earlier in the year is still there as large as life in Blenhiem Way. As one of the residents said to me "the Council and other authorities must be having a laugh." Sadly they are at the tax payer, expense. Whether it be those paying Car Tax, Council tax or any other form of tax, the bill to sort this out will be paid for by someone. I find it puzzling that a car with no tax can just be left the way it has never mind the fact that incredibly contractor tat maced around it. I suppose it must be down to cuts at the end of the day. By this is April the second.

GREEN BAGS LEFT UNCOLLECTED IN OSCOTT
I have received a large number of complaints about green waste recycling sacks not being collected. These bags are on many of the roads side verges in Oscott and in some roads like Dyas Road bags have been split and their contents are all over the road. I am pressing the Council authorities to remedy the situation and just hope it does not turn into another fiasco like that we had with black bag and recycling box collections over the festive period earlier this year. The Council needs to sort this out and fast.

Motorised Diability Scooters (fold up) for loan
The Oscott residents Disability Group are now offering to lend out for a small charge fold up type disability scooters. The scooters can be placed in a car boot and are ideal to use on trips and so on. This could help a number of disabled residents with mobility problems who need a scooter if they go on a day trip or a holiday. For further details please ring 464 1869.

WE NEED BOTH KINGSTANDING AND PERRY COMMON LIBRARIES
Oscott are very lucky to have 2 Libraries with in its boarders one at each end. These Libraries Kingstanding and Perry Common are excellent facilities run by friendly and knowledge staff.
In these times of cutting front line services we need to be on guard to protect our libraries. Some changes are almost inevitable given the drastic cuts being imposed on our Council by the government, but here in Oscott Both Councillor Barbara Dring and I are known for our support for our libraries and we will fight for them.
Last year for example we helped through Community Chest funding, for the Perry Common Library to have a refit.
It should also be remembered that both our libraries are well used by residents from neigbouring wards. Everyone should in my view rally round and use our libraries as much as possible.

STREET CONTRACTORS SHOULD ALL CLEAN UP THEIR MESS
After months of complaints the pavement near the Dormington Road/ Wandsworth Road which had damaged by contractors was finally repaired. Now however after weeks barriers and signs are still the pavement
Walking around the Oscott ward it is not difficult to come across discarded barriers and signs which have been left in some cases for many weeks cluttering up our pavements, by street contractors of one sort or another.
Surely there needs to be a clause but in place that says when a job is finished barriers, loose soil, sand bags and signs should be taken away and yes even the pavement of carriage way should be swept.
If there is such a clause it is being ignored but i get the feeling with the current Council Administration ( and other authorities the the power companies and so on to be fare) the concept may be a bit to complected. I would be happy to be proved wrong.

COOKSEY LANE PLAYING FIELD AGM.
Along with Councillor Barbara Dring I attended the Cooksey Lane Playing Fields AGM tonight.
It is good to see that a number of users of the site and local residents turned up to the meeting.
The association who run the activities on the field and in the pavilion are keen to look to the future and are trying to find funding for a number of youth based activities for the area. A boxing club for Oscott and Kingstanding youngsters is high up on their wish list. ( the Oscott ward gave the association £1000 last year from the oscott Community Chest)

ASDA QUESLETT PHARMACY SERVICE TO BE LAUNCHED 4.30pm MONDAY 28TH MARCH
The ASDA super store on Queslett Road are to introduce a new pharmacy service. It is my understanding this will mean there will be a pharmacy in the Oscott area open later than most currently here. This has to be good news for all those unable to get to a pharmacy earlier in the day.
I hope this service will compliment the many excellent other pharmacies that there are in the Oscott area.

blood pressure monitoring, full lipid cholesterol testing, BMI checking

It would appear since my last blog complaining about the state of the carriage way in Warren Road contractors have filled some of the pot holes with Tar mac. What is really needed is the work carried out correctly and soon and not simple botch up jobs.

COUNCILLORS ADVICE BUREAU'S MAY BE NEEDED MORE THAN EVER?
I was pleased the other day when, I found out that Councillor Barbara Dring and I are, if not the most economical, then one of very best, when it comes to the cost of hiring rooms for out advice Bureau’s
We both firmly believe unlike some councillors it is very important to give residents the opportunity to meet on a one to one basis with their councillors.
Councillors should not hide away from hearing what their resident have to say and there are times when a one to one service is badly needed.
At a time when Neighbourhood Offices and even the CAB are under financial threat of closure because of the current Councils funding policies,(although we can not possibly replace their expertise,) a Councillor’s services may be needed more than ever.
Councillor Barbara Dring and my advice Bureau times are as follows.

I have received a number of reasons for this but it seems strange that a city who do not have a great repetition for recycling, but never the less wish to promote recycling, can not put in place a system where boxes can be replaced quite quickly.

WARREN ROAD CARRIAGE WAY ON THE WAY TO BECOMING ANOTHER BOOTHS LANE

However this time the Council can make no excuses as they own and maintain this busy cut through road.
It has become more and more noticeable how the Council have let out carriage ways deteriorate over the last couple of years and the excuse that it is the bad weather we have had, does not wash with me. If our roads were maintained better the effects of the weather would be no ware near as bad.

OSCOTT OPEN SPACES ARE BECOMING COVERED IN DOG MESS
Some bins like the one at the entrance to the Queslett Nature Reserve need to be emptied more often and I have now been assured this will happen.
Dog mess on our open spaces is becoming a real nuisance. Having walked on the Burford Road playing Field, the Glenmead playing Field, the King George Playing Field, the Aldridge Recreation Ground and the Queslett Nature Reserve recently, one thing I found in common was the problems of dog mess. The entrances and grass areas are all have a problem with this dog mess.
I am far from being anti dog but I would appeal to dog owners to bag and bin your dogs mess. Also please keep your dogs off football pitches.
Oscott is suffering from thefts of the metal containers out of litter bins at the moment (14 at the last Count) and this is not helping the situation. If you suspect a bin is being stolen make a note of what is happening and inform the Police.

OSCOTT ELDERLY RESIDENTS GROUP MEET WEDNESDAY
Maureen Byrne Chair of the Oscott Elderly Residents Group has reminded me that they will be meeting this Wednesday at the 610 Community Centre Kingstanding Road at 11am.
Amongst other things members of a theatre group will be writing down OERG member memories and expediences so they can be used in a play later this year.

UPGRADE PROBLEMS FOR OUR STREETS
I am still having a number of complaints regarding the Birmingham City Councils road upgrading Initiative. Templeton Road residents have again been sent miss leading letters regarding work to be carried out in their road. Amblecote residents are not happy with the work carried out in their road and to cap it all Blenhiem Way has been resurfaced but a parked car was not removed so they simply went around it.

ANOTHER SUCESSFUL ACTION DAY ON THE QUESLETT NATURE RESERVE
It was good to see a number of young cadets come along to work on the Queslett nature Reserve along with some regular members of the friends of the Queslett Nature Reserve.
These youngsters are very supportive of what we are trying to do on the reserve and work very hard to help us clean and maintain it.

The last of the spring pruning took place and dozens of bags we filled with rubbish and removed from the site.

OSCOTT WARD COMMITTEE MEETING TONIGHT
There will be an Oscott Ward Committee meeting tonight where all 3 ward Councillors should be attending to list to officers reports about various issues including road safety in Kettlehouse Road and to hear the views of the public.
This meeting will start at 7pm (Chaired by Councillor Barbara Dring) and will be held at the 610 Community Centre Kingstanding Road

RING AND RIDE TRIPS TO COST 60P EACH
A 60p per trip fare will be introduced from next month to cover a £900,000 shortfall in funding it was decided at the Conservative/Liberal controlled Intergraded passager aurhthority meeting on Monday.
This will be looked at again in 6 months and the whole service in 12 months.
The idea to cut services has been turned down in favour of a 60p per trip fee in line with puplic consultation.
West Midlands Special Needs Transport, which operates Ring and Ride with a Centro grant, also backed the introduction of fares.
Members of the ruling Conservative group said the £12 million annual cost to the taxpayer was no longer value for money which is something I disagree with. There is room to look at how the system is working however and to improve it for those who genuinely need it.

TEMPLETON ROAD RESURFACING WORK TO START LATE APRIL EARLY MAY
I have just had it confirmed further work on the carriage way in Templeton Road is now expected to take place starting at the end of April and being finished by the end of May.
Mr Edie Fellows the senior Engineer for Amey the contractor carrying out the work has just confirmed this following me sending him a reminder about the subject.
I would like to thank Councillor Timothy Huxtable (Con) the Cabinet member for Street Services for looking into this situation.
There will have to be some inconvenience the road will have to be closed for example so lets hope they get it right this time.

I am pleased to announce that members of the Oscott Labour Party have selected me again to fight for the Ward Oscott seat.
I am conscious that only having lived in the Oscott Ward for 30 years or so I am still learning a lot about it and its people but what I have learnt has made me realise what a privileged it has been to represent Oscott.
Fighting for Oscott and its residents is what it is all about. It is a constant battle to remind the authorities we are here and we want what is best for this area. Whether you are young or old I will if re-elected in May carry on doing the best I can for you and Oscott without making any false claims or promises.
It Is also a great honour to represent all the people of the City I was born in.

AS a member of the integrated Transport Authority my work trying to ensure Public Transport is the best it can be despite constant cut backs by the Privatised Transport companies, it is also a great challenge and although it is recognised by many as being one of the most difficult committees to deal with. I do enjoy the challange despite it being under the control like the Government and the Birmingham City Council, of the Conservative , Liberal Coalition AND IS BEING HIT BY FAR TO MANY CUTS TO FAST

KETTLE HOUSE / BANDYWOOD ROADS, ROAD SAFETY TO BE REVIEWED
Councillor Timothy Huxtable (Con) the Councillor responsible for the Conservative led Council Administrations Highways department, has following representations from my self, now asked his senior Engineers to look again at the Kettle House Road / Bandywood Roads.
There have been a number of vehicle accidents in these roads of the last few years and despite having a speed indicator sign introduced recently there seems to be no end to the problem.
The Police are also going to be asked at a high level to look into the issues and to bring more Police speeding enforcement to the area.
There have been a number of vehicle accidents in these roads of the last few years and despite having a speed indicator sign introduced recently there seems to be no end to the problem.
The Police are also going to be asked at a high level to look into the issues and to bring more Police speeding enforcement to the area.

DOUBLE KERBING INTRODUCED TO GREEN AREA BY KINGSLAND SCHOOL
Councillor Dring and I have managed to get the Councils Transportation department to introduce double curbing around the Bandywood crescent half island near the Kingsland school.
This should help safeguard children when they come out of school by stopping some of the inconsiderate parking near the entrance.
The new curbing will also help prevent the grass area on this half island from becoming a mud bath becuase of cars driving on it.

STOP LARGE VEHICLES USING RAT RUNS IN OSCOTT
Yet again there has been a problem with a large lorry of the Articulated kind using small roads which depute the rules of the highway are not suitable for such large vehicles.
One such articulated lorry snapped off a large branch from a tree in Dunedin Road. The branch particularly bocked the road and residents had to contact the Council (then myself) to get it moved. Luckily on one was injured.
These sorts of lorries should not use roads like Dunedin (and others near by like Templeton, Southgate and Weybourne Roads for example, as cut through rat runs. They should be made to use the larger roads in the area by the Council.

REPLACEMENT FENCING FOR THE QUESLETT NATURE RESERVE
The recently stolen Queslett Road boundary fence on Booths Lane is being replaced this week.
Dozens of residents have been in touch with me since the fence was stolen a few weeks ago, concerned about the increase in motor bikes on the reserve (endangering those using the reserve)and the possibility Travelers may try to use the site.
After constant pressure the from the Friends of the Queslett Nature Reserve and myself a small amount of funding for fencing was found and now the fence is to be replaced.
I would ask residents to keep an eye on the wooden fencing on the reserve boundary and if you see anyone trying to take it down please ring the Police.

NEW RULES FOR TAKING RUBBISH TO OUR TIPS
From today those wishing to take rubbish to Holford drive in Vehicles of 3.5 tonnes gross weight, large vans, pick ups, or trailers of a certain size unless you have a permit.
If you do get a permit it will only be for the hours 8am to 2pm on week days.
You will have to fill in a permit which will last for 1 year.
You need to read the permit application very carefully as there are very Draconian measures of enforcement.
You will also only be able to use the permit 6 times in any one year and if you have a car as well as a van registered to your household you will not be able to have a permit although you may be able to apply for one off visits to the tip.
There are many more rules this whole thing may prove to be counter productive and to be a fly tippers charter.
